Before becoming an owner for Club Z!, I was an elementary school teacher for multiple years. I have my Master of Arts degree in Elementary Education, and I have experience teaching in both special education and general education classrooms. Over the years, I have seen many different types of personalities, learning styles, and abilities in the classroom. My job is now to utilize my experience with students in the classroom to help me match students with the right tutor that will help them be successful learners. No matter my career, my passion will always be helping all students overcome obstacles and reach their goals.

During this difficult time, students of all ages have struggled to be successful in remote classrooms. Many students have fallen behind academically over this past year. Unfortunately, when students return to classrooms in a more ‘normal’ setting, schools will not be as understanding when it comes to academic abilities. Your child will still be expected to be at his or her current grade level in all subjects even though this has not been a traditional school year. This is certainly not fair, but that is often the reality in education. 

A large part of these struggles can be attributed to the lack of 1-on-1 and small group support that students are receiving in the online classroom. This is NOT teachers’ fault as they were already generally overworked and under-supported before the pandemic. Rather, less time for 1-on-1 or small group instruction is just a byproduct of the remote classroom setting. While it is amazing that we have the technology to continue learning safely at home during the pandemic, it is certainly not the equivalent to in-school instruction. Students need individualized support, especially when struggling, in order to achieve academic success. This is true now more than ever!
