, what differentiates Club Z! Glenbrook is our focus on student-centered instruction.
, the benefits of individualized, student-centered tutoring include: one-on-attention; better study habits; self-advocacy; more self-confidence; and higher grades and test scores.
Our approach allows us to connect with students in more meaningful ways and for our tutors to tailor instruction to a student’s preferred method of learning.
The Student-Centered Tutoring Method
Compared to other tutoring approaches, our student-centered model does not follow a prescribed curriculum.
Other companies rigidly stick to their own, which can lead to inaccurate diagnostic testing. Our method focuses on the actual work and lessons a student is currently experiencing in their own classrooms. Each plan is individualized to suit the student’s needs, remaining flexible so they see the most improvements.
Doing the Real Work
We consider the actual struggles a student is experiencing in their school’s curriculum. While a generalized test can sometimes be effective to help determine a student’s level, it doesn’t address specific struggles the student faces with their schoolwork.
We help students with their current workload, studies, and assignments. This approach is more productive because a student is not putting in extra work going through exercises to target their weaknesses. It is real-time learning where each student completes their schoolwork with assistance from their tutor. The best part of this type of learning is that students get to see the results from their hard work in their improved grades and confidence in the classroom!
Individualized Instruction
Our tutors provide individualized instruction to students at the start of their current schoolwork. Instead of looking at a project after the fact where a student did poorly, student-centered tutoring provides the opportunity for them to get a head start on their work. One-on-one instruction is never generalized unless a student will benefit from this approach. To that end, we focus on the specifics of the courses where the student is struggling.
A Little Bit More
Student-centered tutoring also considers the needs of the student and how they respond to education.
Learning is very personal, and therefore each student requires a different approach. While our tutors focus on the work at hand, they also look for opportunities to help students excel. For example, our tutors also can help students with their organizational, time management, and even executive functioning skills. Sometimes, a little more work can do the trick too.
Seeing different problems or reading different types of writing that might be more interesting to a student can really impact their enjoyment of the learning process. A student might not be challenged enough and that is why their grades are suffering. Often these students appreciate more challenging work and will improve when they are exposed to something new.
Accessing New Resources
Some students simply need a different type of resource that helps them learn in a new and more engaging way.
We are happy to provide recommendations for resources that students can use themselves or that tutors can introduce in their sessions. The key is to find the approach that is most beneficial to the individual. Supplemental resources and recommendations to enhance a student’s learning abilities all become part of student-focused tutoring because it focuses on flexible learning methods suited to the student’s or needs.
